What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I first had the idea when a friend of mine bought me “Inkheart” by Cornelia Funk then after that series I began reading other middle grade fantasy books like “Fablehaven” by Brandon Mull “The Chronicle of Narnia” by C.S. Lewis and became hooked. Other fantasy books inspired me too like “Magic Kingdom of Landover” series by Terry Brooks, “Gatemage” by Orson Scott Card and “Books of Umber” by P.W. Catanese. I started working on this trilogy in 2006 after I wrote my urban fantasy novel “The Lost Angels.”

The Ivy Labyrinth: Volume 1 by Cady Hammer

Posted By Fantasy Books Curator Leave a Comment

Kristy Fitzpatrick just can’t catch a break.

As a mortal in a magical world, she often feels disconnected from the rest of her mystical, more exciting classmates. The only thing that she has to compete with in the classroom is her mind.

But even for a magical being like her impulsive naiad best friend, Brianna, life is far from stable. Centuries ago, when a fully formed labyrinth sprang from the ocean, the magic emanating from its ivy walls caused all kinds of devastating magical consequences that affect the planet every year from magical instability in beings all over the world to chaotic natural disasters.

Every year, four high school students are chosen to enter the labyrinth and try to break its hold on the world by solving a series of complex riddles and challenges. Most never come out.

But when Kristy’s school is selected as the home of the next four students, despite her lack of choice in the matter, she sees an opportunity to do something that no other student has managed to do so far: survive the labyrinth.

In Volume 1 of this Hunger Games-meets-Maze Runner high fantasy story from Kindle Vella and Radish, Kristy is about to learn whether her mind and body are up to the task. Because somehow, as she tests her own limitations, the Labyrinth is learning how to best her and her companions. There is no telling what kind of obstacles could come next.

Targeted Age Group:: Young Adult

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This book was originally a concept I came up with in sixth grade while I was experimenting with stories to find my genre. I wanted to write something from multiple perspectives that would allow me to show off some of my favorite character archetypes and experiment with writing first person in the male voice. When I started work with Kindle Vella this past summer, I pulled this story out of the archives to revamp it and give it a new look. I aged up the characters, made the challenges a little more complicated, and played around with some more serious themes.

A Queen To Come by Frances Ellen

Posted By Fantasy Books Curator Leave a Comment

Synopsis:
A Queen To Come is the first in a trilogy of prequel novellas featuring Asters and Affinites battling Dark Kings and their Disciples for the Surface of the world and the safety of humans. Dive into a unique fantasy world based on Nordic mythology, featuring diverse magic, multi-cultural characters, globe-trotting action and adventure, and with a truly stunning cliff-hanger ending.

The five Asters, brothers and sisters in magic, battle an unknown Dark King to ensure their new Queen ascends to the throne, in this debut YA fantasy prequel series. Together with Affinites, who have no magic but unique affinities for specific skills, the Asters have been protecting humans from the Dark Kings’ reigns of terror for generations; even since their first and, until now, only Queen bestowed six Affinites each with one of her own magic powers 500 years ago. The one unique magic that the original Queen didn’t pass on would only return if there was a dire need of it: to bring balance back into the world. Now, 500 years later, her reincarnation predicts a threat to the peaceful existence that generations of Asters had created and protected.

Up until her eighteenth birthday the new Queen was brought up as human in a secret location, with no knowledge of the crown she will be expected to wear or the rare magic she possesses. She will join the Asters, and she will become the most powerful creature to ever live. But a Dark King knows of her upcoming accession, and will do whatever it takes to stop it. He starts abducting Affinites in the hopes that one of them might know the Queen’s secret location. He wants to steal her magic before she learns how to use it against him. It is up to the five Asters to make sure that he doesn’t.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I actually started writing this book over forty years ago, from images that formed in my mind of the four pivotal scenes, but I only got a little ways into it – eighty hand-written (did I say this was forty years ago?) pages. A character I liked was heading toward his imminent death, and being an inexperienced pantser I didn't know how to change his destiny, so I set it aside and didn't take it back up until about five years ago, when I had been actively writing short fiction for a few years (making me an EXPERIENCED pantser) and decided it was time to write my first novel.

There is another power, one that is forbidden, and its use is punishable by death.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I started writing in 2017 and started with epic fantasy. It was a hobby driven by a desire to share stories in the genres I grew up with. Then sometime in the middle of 2018, I decided to try writing a fantasy tale for children. Just in time for Christmas. There will be other books narrating Frieda's adventures. Once I find the time to write them.

Posted By Fantasy Books Curator Leave a Comment

The Council is the governing Coven over the Land of Five, a region entirely inhabited—and split apart—by witches with varying powers.

Lilith Lace, a witch thought to be born powerless, happily resides in Ignis, the Coven of Fire, until she suddenly develops telekinesis, an ability only seen in some witches born in Mentis, the Coven of the Mind. She’s terrified of it, unsure who she can trust. Her best friends, Helena and Clio, are hot and cold about what she can do, leaving Lilith even more unsure about her future.

At her Arcane Ceremony, the truth comes out.

When the Council learns what she can do, she’s taken under their wing and is finally told the truth—everything she’s learned about the Land of Five, herself included, have been nothing but lies.

Targeted Age Group:: YA

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
When I got the idea for this book, it was the first time that I branched out from my genre. By nature, I am a psychological horror/thriller author. I debuted in that genre, and love it to pieces. The idea for the Council was created when I decided I wanted to try my hand at writing a fantasy book. I started out thinking of a world of witches and fairies and details grew from there.

Only Father God knows how to bring this young woman back to himself.

Targeted Age Group:: 16-70

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My Inspiration to write this book came from several factors. Firstly, I love to read Time Travel stories, yet some don’t seem to get the vanishing back through time part correctly.
As a retired specialist nurse and aware of the unconscious patients’ ability to hear and know while in a comatose state, I drew on this understanding for traveling back through time. Having my seventeen-year-old granddaughter living with me
and sighting the rebellion in her plus praying for her safety, also contributed to the story.
When writing, I use my formed education of nursing, mental health, emergency medicine, psychology, and Bible College to draw an exciting picture of events.
