Bleeding Light, Prophecy of Hope Book 3 by Sarah Kennedy

Posted By Fantasy Books Curator Leave a Comment

In the latest volume of the award-winning Prophecy of Hope Saga, an empty throne, fallen crown and broke scepter are all that remains of the great Empire of Light. From Nudhug to Armahad, the marked bones of the Caladrius kings have all been stripped of their promise, and crumbled into dust. But one remains. the despotic heir, Liacin Caladrius, has given himself wholly to Sgarrwrath, the ancient evil cursed long ago to formless darkness, for promises of power beyond that of any man before. Yet Sgarrwrath cares little for the man held in his thrall, he desires only to wield Liacin and the bloodline he embodies. A bloodline tied to a prophecy as old time. Sgarrwrath has spent millenia trying to overcome his curse, one stolen piece of life at a time, and the prophecy forever telling his doom. His ultimate prize is none other than the one who cursed him so long ago, Mhorag, the Living Flame, one of the Everliving. With Liacin and his bloodline of prophecy, Sgarrwrath hovers upon the brink of world-wide dominion. Yet when flame falls from the sky and the Markless Son bears the Golden Brand, Sgarrwrath finds himself facing his highest desire and his greatest fear, as all who behold the signs know that the true Promised King has come but not in the way they expect. As the prophecy has long foretold, hope is divided like the flame. By some twist of fate, Mhorag has come down into a world of darkness and has taken an unexpected form. The form of a child, robed not in the glorious flame of the Everliving but in vulnerable, human flesh, in the womb of Sian Seela. Why? That is the question that plagues Sgarrwrath as together he and Liacin seek to claim the Promised, setting their focus upon the infant conceived by mysterious circumstances. In some ways, Mhorag seems diminished and yet Sgarrwrath can still sense too much life, power– everything he has ever desired and more, and suddenly Mhorag appears to be in reach. Sgarrwrath seeks to take the child before he can be born upon the earth but something stands in his way. Both a prophecy and a curse. Others also look to the child. To protect him. To serve him. To worship him. Soon, the battle lines of a timeless war are redrawn, this time upon the earth, held in the terrible grip of Sgarrwrath’s own dark soul.

Targeted Age Group:: Teens and up

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Bleeding Light is a continuation of a series. The series came about from characters I have been writing about for most of my life. I started writing them as a child during a particularly difficult season in my family as we faced my brother Isaac's drug addiction. The series, in its published form, came out of that when following Isaac's sudden death in what has become known as our country's ongoing Opioid Crisis, I wrote my first novel, Sgarrwrath, Prequel to the Prophecy of Hope, as part of my grieving process. Sgarrwrath is a character I never named as a child. He was there in the darkness and pain but he never found his voice until after Isaac's death, and without Sgarrwrath there would be no series. Bleeding Light, Prophecy of Hope Book 3 is simply the next part of the planned series of interconnected stories.

High Clowder Cats by Ruby Knight

Posted By Fantasy Books Curator Leave a Comment

Life is not easy for a feral cat at the best of times, but the difficulties Bushytail faces on his journey to search for a home are far from ordinary.

Bushytail wants to find his own territory, but the journey is dangerous. He has to avoid the humans and their noisy machines as well as being on alert for other toms that may want to challenge him. He is used to relying on his wits to survive, however, Bushytail realises that this time he needs friends to help him. He joins up with a band of clowderless young toms. After being on his on for so long he is glad to have company, but this is just the start of the long journey Bushytail makes, along the way discovering who he is and how he fits into the world of cats.
Bushytail is guided by the enigmatic Bristle, who insists that Bushytail needs him as a mentor. At first, Bushytail does not see the point of the rules Bristle is trying to teach him, but in awe of Bristle’s powers, and with much encouragement, he perseveres. Unfortunately, the things Bristle is trying to teach him do not come naturally to Bushytail, but Bristle is convinced that Bushytail will need the skills being taught and will not take no for an answer.
Like any young cat, Bushytail has high hopes and dreams, however, in the end his destiny is thrust upon him rather than being a path of his own choosing. There are many times when he nearly gives up, but, with the help of the Stone, he learns to put the needs of others before himself and accept the future that is laid out before him. Bushytail is eventually transformed into a spiritual guardian and master warrior. Every step of the way his self-doubt threatens to overwhelm him, but somehow, despite his misgivings, he becomes instrumental in creating a new order for catkind through High Clowder.
Unfortunately for Bushytail, not all cats are convinced that the new order is best for catkind. Cats have always walked alone, with power being bestowed only on the strongest. Those cats who are weak or infirm, generally do not survive for long. For a long time, this has been the natural order of things. Some cats question whether the idea of a new community – where the very young, elderly, weak and sick are cared for – should be allowed.

The question is, even if he is successful, will Bushytail be able to live out his life in peace with those he loves, in the clowder he is trying so hard to make a safe haven for all?

High Clowder Cats is the first book in the series Clowder Cats by author Ruby Knight. This series follows the adventures of feral cats living together and their struggle to survive.

Targeted Age Group:: 14-25

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I began writing High Clowder Cats because a student I was teaching wouldn't read to me unless it was about cats. When I wrote about Bushytail, I knew I wanted to turn the story into an engaging novel for young readers, but also one that has challenging themes to allow readers to have conversations about things that matter to them.

The time has come.

The Dark Mage, Lord Morgorth, and Aishe of the Ravena Tribe, are to become bondmates.

Morgorth is equal parts nervous and excited. He wants to unite with Aishe in the sacred dialen ceremony, to proclaim their devotion to the world, to show everyone that Aishe is his equal and deserving of respect. After all they’ve survived together, why shouldn’t they make the cosmic promise before friends and family? But duty must often come before pleasure. When Morgorth’s estranged mentor, Master Ulezander, comes to him with a time-sensitive mission involving a major stone of power, Morgorth has little choice but to acquiesce.

Aishe knows his mate struggles with the revelation of his true destiny, after a lifetime of defining himself as the future Destroyer of Karishian. All he can do is reassure Morgorth that being the Savior is a far better fate for both of them. But as Morgorth and Aishe leap through worlds and dimensions in pursuit of a stone of power, more pieces to the puzzle of Morgorth’s destiny are revealed. And they form an image of sacrifice and tragedy.

The dark cloud of an ancient enemy looms ever closer, and the path to becoming the Savior might prove more monstrous than that of the Destroyer.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I first had the idea when a friend of mine bought me “Inkheart” by Cornelia Funk then after that series I began reading other middle grade fantasy books like “Fablehaven” by Brandon Mull “The Chronicle of Narnia” by C.S. Lewis and became hooked. Other fantasy books inspired me too like “Magic Kingdom of Landover” series by Terry Brooks, “Gatemage” by Orson Scott Card and “Books of Umber” by P.W. Catanese. I started working on this trilogy in 2006 after I wrote my urban fantasy novel “The Lost Angels.”

The Adventures of Jimmy Crikey: The Emerald Lake by Wallace Briggs

This is a stand-alone, fourth in series, The Adventures of Jimmy Crikey, the alien orphan who, despite cruel bullying, decided to make his home on Earth. He numbers among his friends the four witch guardians of Earth’s realms and the ancient Lord Oron, aka The Weatherman.
The underground Emerald Lake, the home of the Aquamites, is invaded by a flesh-eating, fire-breathing serpent, which is impervious to the magic of the four guardian witches. Matilda, the chief witch, asks for Jimmy Crikey’s assistance.
Jimmy accompanies Elwinn, witch guardian of everything associated with water, to visit the Emerald Lake. They arrive at a plausible plan to capture the serpents in a spider’s web net.
Their strategy is complicated because Jimmy cannot breathe underwater unless he is included in Elwinn’s bubble. Several of the strongest young Aquamites agree to act as live bait to entice the serpents into a lake inside an extinct volcano’s caldera.
Once the serpents are lured into the volcano’s lake Jimmy, with the help of his starship SR3 and XRU, the intelligent computer/navigator, will trap the reptiles in a spider’s web net, ready to drag the creatures into the cold depths of deep space.
Jimmy’s heart is captured at first sight of Annison, a young, golden-headed Aquamite who is also the daughter of Milton, the leader of the tribe.
During the operation to rid the Aquamite’s world of serpents, Annison is seriously injured when one serpent takes a bite out of her lower tail. She is dying from the loss of blood. The witches do not have the power to help. There is no time to get her to Jimmy’s home plane of Attalia for advanced surgery.
All appears lost until Lord Oron reveals his real identity. Lord Oron is one of the twelve Lords who serve the all-powerful Master. The Master could save Annison, but he refuses to bring a subject back to life from the dead. Can Lord Oron persuade the Master to intervene and save the life of Jimmy’s first love, Annison?

The Princelings of the East Books 1-3 by Jemima Pett

The Princelings of the East Books 1-3 by Jemima Pett

A time tunnel, a pirate king, a lost city. In three separate adventures, Princelings Fred and George set out to solve trifling problems, and uncover dangerous and sometimes desperate foes, each with his or her own agenda, threatening the peace of the Realms.

The Princelings of the East: the saga starts with Fred and George leaving their cosy Castle in the Marsh. They encounter the mysterious cola vendor Hugo, the playboy Prince Lupin, and the over-worked innkeeper Victor, and have to use their own wits to decide who to trust, and how to prevent their ordered society descending into chaos.

The Princelings and the Pirates sees our heroes setting out to discover what has gone wrong at Castle Dimerie. It’s a simple errand that ends in kidnap, shipwreck, and a battle in which no quarter is given. Princeling Fred rescues a damsel in distress, not that she thinks she is.

The Princelings and the Lost City introduces George to the delights of flying, and Fred to the tortures of true love. Their inventions and experiments take a back seat as the puzzle of the Lost City and its all-female society lead to questions that may be too difficult to solve.

And having experienced a time paradox in the first adventure, George is under pressure to achieve a new method of providing the world with energy from strawberry juice. It’s a project that, for all the benefits it brings, creates far-reaching changes in their ordered society.

Praise for the books

“Princelings of the East is a suspense-filled mystery strong on character development, with a deliciously complex and engaging plot, that is sure to be enjoyed by older tweens and adults alike.” (Mother Daughter Book Reviews)

“The plot is absolutely brilliant. It’s sci-fi mixed with mystery and action, and I would recommend it to everyone!!!!” (Joshua A, aged 13, for Published Bestsellers)

“Another hazardous adventure, complete with swashbuckling pirates and beautiful princesses. As in the first book, the story is narrated in a fun and engaging style. The writing throughout is top quality and I love the witty chapter sub-headings.” (Wendy Leighton-Porter, author of the Shadows from the Past series)

“Lost City, book 3 in the [series], is a great read for those who love fantasy with young male protagonists. The plot is new, interesting, and will engage your mind in the story. A great work was created by the author with this trilogy. (Anna Dye, Readers’ Favorite)

These three adventures are also available as standalone ebooks, paperbacks and now as audiobooks (no 3 is in preparation).
This is a revised box set edition of the three titles, complete with their chapter illustrations, updated to match the audiobooks.

Imagining Dragons by Robert Gaspari

Tom dreamed of the spirit of a dragon who encouraged him to help bring the beast back to life on our world. He found the dragon’s seed hidden away in his uncle’s collection of archeological artifacts after the young man inherited the professor’s estate.
This began a strange journey for Tom, as the dragon spoke to him each night, bestowed psychic powers upon him, and groomed the man to become a Dragon Master. Tom relished this opportunity and willingly engaged in every task assigned to him by this mythological creature. That is until certain things went against his moral fiber…
Would you do what the beast in your dreams demanded if it gave you unlimited power? That was Tom’s dilemma and it could have one of two possible outcomes.

THIS BOOK IS TWO BOOKS IN ONE!

After the original ending, I step back six chapters and provide a totally different alternate ending. I hope you enjoy them both.

Although Biraaldi bloodlines show their Firstborn heritage more clearly than even in Maarihk itself, the two nations have never enjoyed peace. It has been far worse since the rise of Brandt the Usurper to Maarihk’s throne. Natharr and Ellis must navigate threats not only against the Firstborn, but the Maarihkish, as they seek out the sympathizers he Saw who are brave enough to resist Maarihk’s tyranny. Only then can the damage be repaired from when Natharr chose personal happiness with Darshelle and the young crown prince over his weighty responsibilities as Guardian of Maarihk.
