Featured Book: Journeys: the Archers of Saint Sebastian by Jeanne Roland

Posted By Fantasy Books Curator Leave a Comment

15-year-old Marieke disguises herself at the all-male archers’ guild of Saint Sebastian, the place she suspects houses her father’s brutal killers. Soon she’s vowing to help the most handsome Journeyman in the place win the annual guild trials, without ever letting him find out she’s a girl – a girl who loves him. Robin Hood meets Mulan and Princess Bride in this frothy but literate romantic romp through 14th-century Belgium that’s packed with slow-burn longing, unrequited love, angst, humor, action, gorgeous boy shenanigans, a hint of mystery, and of course, plenty of longbow archery trials.

Rhett is a Huntsman, skilled, secretive, and mysterious. A wanted man, he spends his life on the move. His sole retreat is the outskirts of an isolated village in the northern reaches of the duchies. Then one fall, he arrives to find his hovel burned to the ground and the village reeve offering a new arrangement.

Cat’s dread wanes when she meets the Huntsman. There is something honorable about him, and he treats her with respect, unlike her father or brother. Perhaps she can escape her father’s influence forever.

Despite his suspicions, Rhett agrees to the deal and frees Cat from her father’s tyranny, at least for a time. But can he protect her when enemies from his past catch up to him?

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I’ve always loved bards, and I wanted to write something that’s not from the perspective of a chosen one or a hero, but a normal person trying to get by. I love a singer called Malukah, she was the main inspiration for this story.

Featured Book: Awakening (Crystals of Syre, book 1) by Lindsey Cowherd

Posted By Fantasy Books Curator Leave a Comment

It was said that, at the beginning of time, the Stars created for the Eight Kingdoms of Syre each a secret weapon; a Stone of Power, with majiks beyond the imagining. But that was only a myth. By the Second Age of Syre, the majiks, inlaid in Eight Stones of Power, had gone dormant. Life went on without their influence, and the memories of a word dependent on majik slowly faded…

Now in its Third Age, the current kingdoms of Syre have nearly forgotten what powers they were bestowed; however, enemies from beyond the borders threaten the peace of the people. Fighting has been long and exhausting. There is no clear end in sight. But there are those who remember the ancient majiks given to the kingdoms; those who, in fact, had close ties with this unimaginable power. They remember their potential.

Yet, seeking out the Stones of Power seems a measure for the desperate–or it could bring about the salvation Syre is in need of to push the attackers from the kingdoms once and for all. Only time will tell.

The powers of the stones seem to be awakening…a time of majik is upon the Eight Kingdoms of Syre once again…
